Immer her mit dem Wine. ;-)

Dem wäre auch noch hinzuzufügen, dass die Laufzeitumgebung Wine auch unter Windows läuft, damit kann man dann also versuchen nicht mehr lauffähige Oldies zum laufen zu bringen, ohne eine virtuelle Maschine zu bemühen, wenn denn auch der Windows-eigene Kompatiblitätsmodus nicht funktioniert...

Du kannst in der Wine AppDB nachgucken, ob jemand anderes ein Programm getestet hat: http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php?catId=0

Dann lassen sich in Wine auch noch Bibliotheken (*.dll-Dateien) verschiedenster Windows-Versionen in Wine auf das auszuführende Programm anwenden. Ob das sogar mit Windows-Kerneln geht, weiß ich jetzt aus dem Stehgreif nicht.

So! Nach 15 Jahren Entwicklung ist es soweit: Wine 1.0 ist freigegeben worden!

Ich dachte immer, Wine würde Geld kosten. Das sieht ja richtig interessant aus, vielleicht unternehme ich demnächst nochmal einen Versuch, auf Linux umzusteigen.
Ich habe mich leider noch nie damit beschäfigt, es wundert mich, dass da erst jetzt die Version 1.0 draußen ist. Außerdem kann das ja noch lange nicht das Ende der Fahnenstange sein, schließlich werden immer neue Windows-Versionen entwickelt und dazu neue Software.
Hat denn jemand viel Erfahrung mit dem Programm, von der er mir ein wenig abgeben könnte?

Du meinst sicherlich Cedega, das ist die kostenpflichtige Version von Wine. Auf das 1.0
würde ich mich jetzt nicht so fixieren. Manche Sachen laufen, andere nicht. Ich nutze es
in erste Linie für kleine Tools wie USD o.ä. Bei größeren Programmen (z.B Photoshop)
habe ich eher die Erfahrung gemacht, daß es irgendwann Ärger gibt.

Und falls du wirklich mit dem Gedanken spielst umzusteigen, verwende unter Windows schonmal Programme, die es auch unter Linux gibt (Firefox, VLC, Winamp,.). Das macht den Umstieg ungemein leichter, zumindest war es bei mir so.

Naja, das mache ich schon lange. VLC, Opera (kein Firefox Smile ), OpenOffice und noch einige andere gehören bei mir zum Standard. Probleme hatte ich bisher nur bei der Installation der Grafiktreiber (WLAN will ich gar nicht erwähnen), weshalb ich dann auch keine Filme o.ä. gucken konnte. Der VLC war da also wenig nützlich. Und als Linux dann plötzlich nicht mehr startete nach Wechsel der Grafikkarte, da war ich eben wieder bei Windows. Welche Linux-Version ist eigentlich empfehlenswert? Ich hatte damals Suse, aber es gibt Leute, die das schrecklich finden und mir Ubuntu ans Herz legen. Sind das nicht alles äquivalente Lösungen, die sich nur im Detail unterscheiden?

Das mit den Programmen (VLC,..) meinte ich eher aus Sicht der Gewohnheit, nicht die technischen/administrativen Aspekte. Das war immer bei mir das Problem, 15 Jahre Windows legt man nicht so einfach ab. Das ist auch bei mir das Dilemma mit KDE u. Gnome. Die sind so ähnlich wie die Windows-Oberfläche, daß man die ganze Zeit Windows als Vorbild im Kopf hat. Es wird eine Ähnlichkeit vortäuscht, die in letzter Konsequenz aber nicht stimmt. Naja, und jetzt bin ich bei Openbox gelandet. Da gibt es die Möglichkeit auf Desktopsymbole und die Taskleiste zu verzichten. Und seit dem komme ich mit Linux klar. Vorher hatte ich immer das Gefühl mit einer schlechten Windows-Kopie unterwegs zu sein, und jetzt komme ich gar nicht mehr auf die Idee, zu überlegen: "wie hab ich das nochmal unter Windows gemacht?".
Und inzwischen finde ich es nervig, daß Windows nicht wie mein Linux funktioniert (und nicht umkehrt, wie sonst immer).

Welche Distribution? Das ist natürlich eine gute Frage, die du dir allerdings nur selbst beantworten kannst. Das kommt auf deine Bedürfnisse an. Ich würde schon behaupten, daß es mitunter gewaltige Unterschiede zwischen den einzelnen Distributionen gibt. Und da habe ich auch einige schon ausprobiert (Suse, RedHat, Mandrake, Debian, Gentoo, Ubuntu usw). Die meisten waren mir aber zu überfrachtet, ich finde es einfach eine Unart, für jede Aufgabe 10 verschiedene Programme zu installieren.
Und nun habe ich Arch-Linux genommen, und damit bin ich richtig zufrieden. Schön schlank und schnell. Durch die minimalistische Art bekommt man in relativ kurzer Zeit einen guten Überblick über das System. Der Paket-Manager heißt Pacman und ist einfach nur genial.
Man sollte sich aber auf jeden Fall die Installationsanleitung aus der Wiki ausdrucken, sonst könnte es etwas knifflig werden. Naja und sonst hatte ich halt immer das Problem mit Linux, daß irgendwas nicht ging (Soundkarte, USB, Internet) und bei ArchLinux habe ich diese Probleme nicht, da haben, zumindest bei mir, die Standardlösungen immer funktioniert. Und wenn du nicht auf KDE verzichten willst, gibt es für Archlinux die KDEMOD, das ist im Prinzip eine lite-Version von KDE, und da schwärmen auch die ganzen KDE-Nutzer von.
Und such bei Google einfach mal nach arch linux + review, da bist du dann nicht nur auf meine Meinung angewiesen.
